Bakmi Bangka Hokky

Hi Eaters.

What you should never forget if you are a food blogger is your camera. Seriously. You will never know just when and where you might just bumped in with good food.
I did that mistake the other day.
So at Saturday, as always, I went to the gym (yes, exercise is important since I eat a lot) with a couple of friends and after that they took me to a place that they said (and I quote) sells great bangkanese noodles.
Compared to the regular chicken noodles, I loved bangkanese noodles the most. It has a distinctive flavor that's really delicious.
So I went to Bakmi Bangka Hokky, carrying only my 8 MP camera phone, trying to write this review for you.

Once again, please do try to understand the low quality image that maybe presented in this review.
So this particular "warung bakmi" is located in a densed populated area of Jalan Cemara, Tanjung Priuk. It's near the Islamic Center. The location itself was not quite easy to find. Do ask the local people for directions to Jalan Cemara if ever you should want to come here.

The place is only a humble "warung", nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. The seating are just simple wooden tables with plastic chairs. I like to write about these simple places sometimes, because I think being a foodblogger doesn't necessarily means you only write about fancy restaurants. And also I love to explore remote places looking for great spot to eat which are hidden. It's just a challenge for me.

Anyway back to the review, so this "warung" sells bangkanese food. Starting from noodles, bee hoon (rice noodles), he fen (or kwetiau in Indonesia), thew ku fok (bangkanese tofu dish), and bangkanese pempek. There are also a variety of iced desserts too. But since I just finished from the gym, I'm not going to try the dessert. Only the noodles, and maybe a bit of pempek.

I tried the Pempek Lenjer - Rp. 8.000. So if you're confused what's the difference between Pempek Palembang and Pempek Bangka, let me describe them. Pempek Palembang mostly used river fishes as its main ingridients, while Pempek Bangka uses sea fishes. The difference is also at the soup. Pempek Bangka's soup tends to be more sour and spicy while Pempek Palembang's soup is more sweet.
This Pempek Lenjer that I tried was made from spanish mackerel. The texture was a bit chewy. It had a good aroma, not fishy. I didn't eat it with the soup because I thought it was already delicious just by eating it plain.

And then moving on to the main event, the Bakmi Pangsit - Rp. 17.000. The dumplings (pangsit) were served in a separated small bowl. I would agree with my friends, the noodles were awesome. Usually this kind of noodles that I tried in other places were packed with quite a lot of MSG, but this one wasn't. It uses more soy sauce to elevate the flavor. The peppers used weren't that much either, so it wasn't that hot also. The sauted minced chicken meat was delicious. Not too oily and greasy. The dumplings were quite moderate. The fillings weren't much. So I didn't feel the excitement of chewing the dumplings. However the dumplings soup was delicious though. The taste of the chicken stock was perfect.

Next I tried the Bihun Bakso Sapi - Rp. 17.000. It uses the same sauted minced chicken as the one in the Bakmi Pangsit. This one came with a small bowl containing three beef meatballs. The rice noodles had quite a big portion. It's also tasted great. Cooked and seasoned beautifully. Again, no excessive use of MSG, which was great. The meatballs were tender and delicious also. The beef stock was perfect too.
Es Teh Manis

The Es Teh Manis - Rp. 3.000 was surprisingly nice. The tea had a strong aroma and taste. Even though it was mixed with a generous amount of sugar (yes, it was that sweet) but the tea flavor was still traceable. It was good.

Overall conclusion, this is a place with great bangkanese culinary. Finding this "warung" really is like finding a hidden treasure. The flavor is right, and the taste is mind-blowing.
Prices are very affordable, and the portion was quite generous.'
Seriously, if you like bangkanese noodles like the way I am, this place is the right spot for you.

Keep on chewing!
