Dubu Jib

Hi Eaters.

I've had my moments working for a company located at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK). Back at my days, PIK was an area which was not as crowded as it is today. You can even say that it was kind of desolated.
But PIK nowadays are way more attractive. It is now becoming a cool dining place, with so many unique restaurants spread around this particular area. The one that I visited was also quite unique. I'm talking about Dubu Jib.

Dubu Jib is a Korean restaurant. It is located in Ruko Garden House, PIK. The name "Dubu Jib" itself in Korean means the house of tofu. You can quite tell that this restaurant specializes in incorporating tofu in its dishes. The tofu itself is homemade, and the chef is brought all the way from Korea himself. So you should feel quite an authentic Korean taste in every dish that has been adapted to the Indonesian palate.

The restaurant has two floors. You will see an open kitchen in the first floor, where you can see the chef cooks and makes the dishes.
The interior uses the colors of woody brown and stone grey. Giving it a warm and earthly impression, which is comfortable and nice. The service was pretty good too.

The Menu book

As I mentioned earlier, this restaurant specializes in tofu. But not only that, you will find other Korean delicacies on the menu. Here are some of those delicacies I tried.
Welcome snack

The great thing about Dubu Jib is that I get free welcome snacks, consisted of Kimchi, Odeng, Tofu, and Nori (seaweed). Let me describe them one by one.
Tofu. As the restaurant's main star, for me it's quite good. The texture was fluffy. Not too soggy in particular. It had a decent taste also.
Kimchi. This one was also nice. For me, being served free itself is a good deal since most common Korean restaurant would charge me for this menu. The taste itself was pretty tasty. Had a good level of sourness and for my palate it wasn't too spicy also.
Odeng. Served dry with some chopped onions. Would be really good if there was a little bit of spicy soup along with it like the usual Odeng you might find in the streets of Korea. Tasted quite nice though. I like the savory taste of the Odeng.
Nori. Crispy paper-thin nori which had a nice flavor also. I love the crispy sound in every bite of this seaweed.

Kimbab

Kimbab
Moving on. First I tried the Kimbab - IDR 32K. It might looked like a sushi roll from Japan. But what makes Kimbab more distinctive is that it uses sesame oil for the rice compared to the vinegared rice in those of Japanese sushi. The Kimbab in Dubu Jib has ham, fish cake, carrot, and cucumber fillings. It was served along with mayonaise sauce. Overall for me, the taste was mild. No ingridients were overpowering the others. The dish itself was quite rich in texture though, so chewing it was quite nice. The rice was fluffy. A good dish for my rating.
Sun Dubu Combo

The signature dish of Dubu Jib was its Sun Dubu menus. The one I tried was the Sun Dubu Combo - IDR 78K. It is a tofu soup with seafood and beef inside it. The level of spiciness was medium, not too many gochujang (chilli powder) used in this dish. The tofu was broken up, I didn't find big chunks of tofu in this dish. The taste of the soup was quite authentic, and I really loved the overall tasty flavors. It's so recommended to try this menu if ever you should stop by to Dubu Jib.
Jap Chae

You just couldn't miss to try the Jap Chae - IDR 68K. A signature Korean stir-fried noodles made from sweet potato. The one I tried at Dubu Jib was pretty excellent. Cooked beautifully. The noodles were firm and soft, and seasoned nicely. The perfect use of olive oil giving it a good savory taste to come along with the delicious beef and vegetables incorporated with the noodles. Bravo!
La Galbi
La Galbi
My favourite was the La Galbi - IDR 180K. This kind of dish was ranked no 41 from 50 most delicious food in the world by CNN. So you can't go wrong by ordering this dish. The ribs were excellent and briliiantly marinated. The meat was tender and juicy. Grilled to perfection. It's super delicious. I just keep wanting more.
Rappokki

Rappokki
You might think this Rappokki - IDR 88K to be very spicy considering its bold reddish color. But actually it tends to be more sweet than spicy. So this Rappokki dish is a mixture between Ramen noodles and Tteokbokki as its toppings. Tteokbokki itself is a popular Korean snack food made from soft rice cake, fish cake and sweet red chili sauce. So yes, the overall taste was sweet, sweet and sweet. Although I found that the Tteokbokki to be a bit savory though.
Bulgogi
Bulgogi
Ranked no 23 out of 50 most delicious food in the world by CNN. Yes it is the Bulgogi - IDR 120K. It uses Australian beef as its meat, marinated then grilled. The taste was quite delicious, though for my palate it sort of tasted like Japanese yakiniku. One thing I didn't pretty much like about the dish was its pale color. Seemed less appetizing for me. I wish it could be glazed and a bit darkened to looked more like Korean bulgogi.

I also had the privilege to tried some of Dubu Jib's new dishes. It's coming soon and not listed on the menu book yet. Here they are.

Dak Galbi

The first one is the Dak Galbi. This is a stir-fried marinated diced chicken cooked with gochujang (chilli powder). Besides chicken, there are also sliced cabbage, rice cake, chopped onions and thin sliced boiled potato. The dish had a mild level of spiciness, with a good and balance seasoned chicken. The portion was quite big. It could go for four people.

The last new dish I tried was Budae Jjigae. It is a type of Korean stew. It's very rich in ingridients. I found ramen noodles, macaronis, sausages, onions, rice cakes, and beef incorporated in a stew made out of gochujang. Although it uses gochujang, the spiciness are quite mild. It's like a feast of flavors since it uses a lot of different ingridients. Overall I really loved this dish.
Pat Dooyu
Pat Dooyu
Dubu Jib offers a range of beverages to choose, starting from tea, soft drinks, coffee, beer, soy milk, and bottled water. I tried the Pat Dooyu - IDR 45K which was a mixture between soy milk and red bean. The overall taste wasn't that sweet, with quite a strong soy flavor. The red bean gave it a nice texture. Overall good.
Banana Dooyu
Banana Dooyu
I also tried the Banana Dooyu - IDR 45K. This one was a mixture between banana soy milk and fresh fruit. The fruit seemed to be blended. I didn't find any trace of sliced fruit inside. I couldn't really tell also what fruit was used since the overall taste was banana. My guess must be banana too then. The Banana Dooyu also had a nice level of sweetness, a strong banana flavor too. The texture was quite thick though.
Korean Tea
Korean Tea
The last was the Korean Tea - IDR 10K (refillable). This might be the best Korean tea I've tasted. I think this tea is Oksusu Cha, the Korean infusion tea made from roasted corn kernels. I can feel the trace of corn flavors in every sip of the tea. I totally liked the flavor of the tea. The great thing is it's refillable also!

Overall conclusion, to find an authentic Korean restaurant with delicious dishes is never easy. But it really helps to know that now there is such a place which not only over great food, but also great ambience and service.
This is a great spot for Korean food lovers. You will find authentic Korean dishes made by a genuine Korean chef. Prices are moderate. For some people maybe it's going to be a bit high, but trust me it's just totally worth it.
So, what are you waiting for, Korean food lovers? Huzzle up and satisfy your appetite at Dubu Jib!

Keep on chewing!
