Tairyo Japanese Restaurant

Hi Eaters.

Again, it's dinner date time with my fellow foodies. We hang-out quite often recently, and it's been such great moments spending time with them.
For this occasion, we chose a place quite strategic, located in the heart of Jakarta, in which we thought that there would be so sooo many good places to eat could be found. Grand Indonesia Shopping Town (GIST) was our destination. This place has got tons of cool spots to eat. And for that day we chose a restaurant which is at Level 5 of GIST, the coolest level with a line of happening restaurants. The restaurant we chose was a Japanese cuisine restaurant, Tairyo.

Don't be fooled by the name. Actually, Tairyo is originated from China and not Japan. It already has more than 80 outlets in China alone. This outlet at GIST is the first in Indonesia, later to be followed by those opening in Bay Walk Mall and Mall Alam Sutera.
It's also a coincidence I went here to write a review for my participation in the Treat & Tell Level 5 competition for foodbloggers held by GIST. So here goes, and wish me luck, Eaters.

The interior was nice and cozy. There are two kinds of seating area, you can choose to sit near the iron griddle and have the chef cooking in front of you, or you can choose the private seating area.

The concept of the restaurant is teppanyaki. All of the foods are processed and cooked on an iron griddle by the chef. So the best spot in my opinion is to sit in front of the chef. Teppanyaki is actually an art of cooking. The sound of kitchen utensils clashing around, and just looking how the chef performs attractive cooking style with the fresh ingredients are just fascinating. A simple luxury of just like having your own private chef cooking in front of your eyes.

Tairyo offers choices of All You Can Eat menus. There are choices between:
Package A - IDR 170K ++
Package B - IDR 250K ++
or the Full Package where you can enjoy all the menus in Tairyo for IDR 320K ++

But you can still opt for the Ala Carte if you're not a big eater.

Let's see what I tried here.

Miso Soup.

It came quite strong in the flavor, not to mention quite generous too in giving nori and silk tofu fillings. As always, I'm just a fan of bold flavors, and this soup made me love it instantly. It's just so tasty when it's hot (as all soup should be). A perfect appetizer in my opinion. But my fellow foodie felt quite full on the second mouthful. Guess that he's just not too keen in bold flavors.

Salmon Aburi Sushi.

Even though it may not tasted as better as the sushi from a renown sushi restaurant, but the ones here were not too disappointing. Still quite tasty, and surely will spoiled your taste buds. The salmon were cooked thoroughly and had a nice texture in it. I just think they should elevate this dish more since visually it's so intriguing.

Tairyo's Cod Fish.

Cooked nicely and had good seasoning applied. A dish to be loved. The teppanyaki sauce was quite delicious.

Gindara Steak.

Using the same teppanyaki sauce made this fish tasted good too. The meat wasn't dry and eating it was fun. It's also grilled to perfection. A dish that will become memorable.

Bland. Just bland. The outside skin which was grilled had a flavor, but the inside was just plain. Maybe it will be better if there was a sauce that went along with this dish.

Fillet Lamb with Garlic.

A good dish, and tasteful. The lamb is somewhat tricky meat to be cooked and I was pleased to see the chef did an excellent job here. The overall was delicious. A nice tender juicy lamb with a balanced level of saltiness and savoriness.

Red Wine Tongue.

It was just days since the last time I had ox tongue. Well the last one had quite a different texture than the ones here. This one, since it was grilled, felt more chewy. But still the flavors were boasting. The wine was not overwhelming, which was good, since one of my fellow foodie couldn't handle excessive alcohol. It's delicious and certainly I liked it.

Teppanyaki Mixed Vegetable.

As I would expected, this turned out pretty tasty too. Salty, but in a decent way and not too overpowering. The vegetables were cooked nicely and none was shrivelled.

As a fan of garlic what a convenient to come across some big chunks of garlic inside the dish. Overall it's a delicious dish that's executed nicely.

Fried Rice With Salmon.

Using the imported Japanese rice which is more sticky, made this dish wonderful. As Japanese sticky rice should be, this dish had a nice moist texture. And the flavors were good.
The chef actually asked me to try a spoon of the rice as it was being cooked just to checked wether the level of saltiness was my desirable level. It's another benefit factor from sitting near the cooking area.
The salmon was a bit plain, I think it's best to eat it together with the rice.

Ice Ocha - IDR 10K (refillable).

The ocha here was surprisingly good. I love the bold flavor of the tea. For something that's refillable the restaurant didn't downgrade the quality. And the waiters were pretty quick to refill the glass everytime they saw it's half empty.

Overall, it was a nice dining experience for me. I felt the hospitality from the staffs and even the chef was pretty nice and willing to let me asked quite a lot of questions.
Choosing an AYCE restaurant can be tricky sometimes. It takes good references to pick an AYCE restaurant that won't serve you downgraded quality foods. Luckily, you won't see that here.
Do remember even though this is an AYCE restaurant, the concept is not a buffet. So be sure to order quite much at first since the foods are cooked to order. You certainly don't want to take pause too long between each menu, since it will fastened you to feel full.
So in the end, if you're craving for teppanyaki, this is a good choice of restaurant for you. Just remember, it's quite pricey.

Keep on chewing!
