Thai Alley Gandaria City


Hi Eaters.

Sawadika!! Yes, hello to you guys!
As it was seemed this week I was so craving for Thai food. I haven't had it for quite some time, and certainly the feel of the herbs and spices were something I miss.
Was lucky enough that at the weekend I got invited to have a taste of Thai food, and apparently the premium ones. Yeaayy! You could really say that I was really longing for Saturday to come so I can taste those delicacies at Thai Alley.




Bearing the concept of serving Thai street food, there are so much to love about this restaurant. The interior was kinda rustic but artistically appealing, with grafitti on the wall and their unfurnished chairs and tables (which by the way are so colorful). You get the feeling that you are really in a street at Bangkok with many street food vendors around, tempting you with scrumptious food.





So why street food? The main reason is because the best Thai food are the ones you find on the street vendors. Yup, on the street of Bangkok, for instance, you can find the best Pad Thai ever!! If you've been to Thailand then you certainly would know. And also the varieties are so diversed to satisfy your craving.



Rayong - IDR 45K


So this drink kickstarted my lunch. Chunks of peaches and mint leaves inside a glass of lavender syrup mixed with lime and soda. The taste was really fresh. Even though it had soda but the soda was kinda drowned by the lime. A bit sour but the combination was really good. And the peach chunks were a nice addition too.



Gai Tod - IDR 45K


Usually I would order chicken in a Thai restaurant, I opted the Pandan Chicken. But this one came as a contender. The crispy chicken was so good! Marinated very nicely and the seasoning seeped through. And the basil leaves was also delicious. They were also crispy and delightful to eat.



Pad Kraprao Neua - IDR 69K


Stir-fried minced beef with chilli and basil leaves. The basil leaves didn't came as crunchy as the one in Gai Tod. The presentation on the plate might looked as if it was nothing special but let me tell you: don't let it fool you. The taste was delicious. I just love how the beef was not oily but didn't come as dry also. Perfect juiciness. A bit spicy but also savory as well. A perfect companion for a bowl of hot steaming rice. Yumm!



Ciaw Hon Neua - IDR 239K


Moving on to the premium menus. Yup, starting from here til the end it's all about the premium menus. The first one is the Thai steamboat. The soup is herbal, so definitely healthy and delicious. What's great about this steamboat was that it had wagyu! Yeayy, my favourite kind of meat.



I like how they presented the soup in a clay pot instead of metal. Yup I like traditional things sometimes, and this traditional pottery gave more aesthetic feeling to the dish besides of keeping the soup warm of course. The herbal soup was nice. It's fragrant, light, and you really can taste the herbs. The pot in my opinion could be slightly bigger to accomodate the meat and vegetables. But I recommend you to try this one, it's delish.



Tom Yam Goong Ma Praw Awn Oon - IDR 149K


Thai food certainly has a way of serving not only tasty food to eat, but also tasty to see. This is the special traditional Thai soup with giant prawn, mushroom, and lemongrass, served inside a coconut shell. Beautiful isn't it?
The Tom Yam had the perfect spiciness, it's not that strong and more tangy than it is spicy. Overall  it was a nice dish and I truly enjoyed it.



Khao Ohb Sapparod Goong - IDR 129K


Special pineapple fried rice with giant prawn and cashew nut, seved in a pineapple. To see a pineapple fried rice served inside a pineapple shell is nothing out of the ordinary. I think many Thai restaurants have done the same. But what made it more beautiful was the prawn. Indeed elevating the look of the dish. The pineapple fried rice tasted okay for me. It was alright but for my palate there were no striking tastes coming out to be memorable. It may come a bit too sweet considering this dish also had raisins inside.



Nok Tod - IDR 159K


This dish that day was THE BOMB! Stir-fried marinated quail with Thai specialty sauce. I really really loved how they fried the quail. It's soooo crispy up until the bone. I could really finish the meat and the bone altogether. The meat was juicy and the seasoning was just beautiful. Kudos to the Chef. You've done an outstanding job here!



Phink Talay - IDR 299K


Mostly found on Chinese food, you would recognize it as Hoisom. Braised sea cucumber (hoisom) with mushrooms and broccolis. Hoisom is a premium seafood ingredient. And certainly it was done with justice, Great job on cooking the hoisom. The sauce was nice too. Could be a little bit salty for my personal preference though.


Kati Sod Tapai

Thai coconut ice cream served with fermented cassava (tapai). This one, I guess, is a new dessert so for the pricing you would have to ask the restaurant staff. 
The coconut ice cream was awesome. The flavors were really striking out with a fine level of sweetness too. And the caramelized tapai was also good and combined very well with the coconut ice cream. Highly recommended. I just want more and more of this dessert!

Overall conclusion, it was a nice lunch and certainly memorable. It was such an honor for me to be the first to experience these premium menus at its launching. Really loved the taste of the food and certainly enjoyed the ambiance and the service.
