MAD Modern Asian Diner

So lately I've been writing so much about Asian culinaries. Please don't get bored, lol.
And today I would like to write another Asian culinary dishes. I'm going to write about dimsum. Absolutely my favourite dishes of all Asian cuisines.
As you know there are so many restaurants that serve dimsum on their menus, but not all of them can be found appetizing and tasty.
A friend of mine recommended a particular restaurant which he said serves great dimsum. So I just had to go and taste the dimsum at MAD Modern Asian Diner.

So this restaurant is located at Lotte Shopping Avenue, 4th floor just right beside the cinema XXI. At first, I thought it wasn't that big, but when I entered..whew..it was so spacious. It was so packed with customers that day. Apparently the restaurant is having a promo for all you can eat dimsum. So there were so many people having dimsum that day.
The interior is very nice. It's very catchy, youthful, with shocking colors applied for the wallpapers. You will also find an open kitchen, where you will see the restaurant crews prepare your food too. Astonishing interior for my consideration. So cozy and comfortable, and most definitely unique. Here I give you some snapshots of the interior I took that day.

Wicked right? Just gotta love the ambience. It's just so nice and glamorous. How about the food then? Let's go!

The Menu

So MAD offers a wide range of cuisines to choose. Mainly from what I saw on the menu, the food is somewhat a fusion between Asian and Western cuisine. Since I was only craving for dimsum, so pardon me if I only ordered dimsum that day.

 Crispy Prawn Dumpling Served with Mayonnaise

I ordered something that I am familiar of, the Crispy Prawn Dumpling Served with Mayonnaise - Rp. 22.800. Hands down, probably the best kind of crispy prawn dumpling I've had ever. It was very delicious. The dumpling skin was crispy and moist. The fillings are just out of this world. It's SOOOOO GOOD! The prawn is so juicy, and the seasoning is not overwhelming. The mayonnaise sauce is perfect, a good level of sourness. It matched perfectly as the dumpling's dipping sauce.

 Crispy Squid Ink Sesame Ball

The Crispy Squid Ink Sesame Ball - Rp. 20.800 was also good. It was hollow inside. The texture was crispy and nice. The squid ink didn't have any weird and tangy smell too. It's a good dish with tasty flavor.

 Steamed Pork Dumplings 'Siew Mai'

Again I was amazed by something so ordinary and can be found everywhere. The Steamed Pork Dumplings 'Siew Mai' - Rp. 22.800 are just way out of this world. I was blown away by how MAD can make this siew mai to be so delicious. The flavors are just mind blowing. Perfect moist of the dumpling skin, juicy pork fillings, and super savory overall taste. I was so amazed by its flavor, I even ordered another 3 portions. It was just that damn good!

 Baked Mini Egg Tarts

I usually never order any sweet-flavored dimsum. But since my previous orders tasted great I was so curious of how the Baked Mini Egg Tarts - Rp 20.800tasted.
It was so good also. The pastry had a nice taste. Sweet but in a very nice level. The egg custard was excellent. It was creamy and delicious. A great combination of textures between the crunchy pastry and the soft creamy egg custard.

Awesomely delicious! That's what I have to say about the Baked Barbequed Pork Buns - Rp. 22.800. The buns were soft inside with a nice crispy layer outside. Baked perfectly. The pork fillings were superb. Nicely seasoned and the flavors were so delicious. Loving this dish.

 Braised Chicken Feet With Black Bean Sauce

I really like this particular kind of dimsum ever since I tasted it for the first time a couple of years ago. But in my experience after that, it wasn't easy to find restaurants that serve this kind of dimsum in a perfect way. The Braised Chicken Feet With Black Bean Sauce - Rp. 20.800 at MAD luckily was one of the kind that was presented and cooked beautifully. It was so good. It was so puffy. The fermented black bean sauce was just delicious. Perfect balance of spiciness and savoriness. I love the gelatinous texture too. It's just so well executed.

Then there was the Steamed Bun With Lotus Paste and Salted Egg Yolk Filling - Rp. 20.800. It was my first time trying this kind of dimsum and I am LOVING IT!
The buns were so soft, and the fillings are just awesome. The overall taste was sweet. For something that incorporated salted egg inside, there was no trace of saltiness in my mouth. It's no problem for me though. I still feel the savoriness of the salted egg which was sooo good. The egg yolk was also very creamy and tasty too.

 Steamed Truffle Dumplings

The best dimsum that day was the Steamed Truffle Dumplings - Rp. 20.800. Kudos for the chef. It was so moist and juicy with perfect chewy skin. The fillings were very generous consisting of truffles and vegetables. Every bite was like throwing a punch (in a good way) in my mouth. A great tasty dimsum with great truffle aroma too. Do order this if ever you should visit MAD.

 Steamed Shanghai Dumpling (Xiao Long Pao)

I was almost full but I just gotta try the Steamed Shanghai Dumpling (Xiao Long Pao) - Rp. 26.800. As you know, Xiao Long Pao is the hardest dimsum to be made. And I was very curious of how the taste of MAD's Xiao Long Pao.
The fillings were pork. The dumpling skin was a bit thin, so I had trouble lifting the Xiao Long Pao without breaking the skin and bursting the broth out (do be careful about this). The fillings for my palate were wonderful. The pork was tasty and the broth was so delicious. Savory and nice. Would be perfect if only the dumpling skin wasn't that fragile and thin.

 Lemon Grass Jelly Tea

Usually I would prefer chinese tea to accompany any dimsum meal. It's the perfect match, since chinese tea had a nice bitter taste to drench out the savoriness and saltiness from the dimsum I previously ate. Unfortunately, MAD ran out of chinese tea that day (oh no!! how could they do that!!) so I went to the alternative Lemon Grass Jelly Tea - Rp. 28.000.
The taste was so herbal. It was so fresh and nice. The original taste was plain, but they gave you a small cup of liquid sugar so you can determine just how sweet you want your tea to be. For something that uses grass jelly, don't feel confused if you can't find any chunks of grass jelly inside. FYI, this is not a bubble drink though.

 Lemon Tea

The Lemon Tea - Rp. 25.000 also came with separated liquid sugar in a small cup. The lemon flavor was quite strong. The sourness and sweetness can be arrange just by how many sugar you put in though. Just don't put too much sugar, you don't want to lose the original sour taste of the lemon.

Overall conclusion, this is a place I can absolutely give high recommendation for the dimsum menus. Certainly my dining experience here was terrific. I've tried quite a lot of delicious delicacies in a place I can say was sooo fantastic, cozy and has impeccable service.
MAD also has other decent delicacies but I have to say the price tags are quite expensive.
For the dimsum prices though are quite fair, cause I think the overall taste was quite remarkable.
So if you are a fan of great dimsum cuisines, this should be a perfect place for you. My only regret was I didn't use the all you can eat promo. So I'm looking forward for my next visit, maybe next time for the all you can eat those delicious dimsum menus.
