Bubur Ayam Jakarta

As promised before, I would like to write something about "street foods". You know in Jakarta there are just a lot of "warung makan" on the side of the street that might surprisingly offer delicious food. So if you are bored reading about fine dinings, or if you want to know a nice "warung makan", stay tune in this review.
This particular "warung makan" which I visited sells chicken porridge. I was told by my blog reader about this "warung" and was so eager to find out by myself.
My review today is going to be about Bubur Ayam Jakarta.

As you might see, I came there quite late. It was almost 9 pm so I hesitated if the "warung" was still open or not. Much surprised, not only was it still open, but it was also quite crowded. I saw a number of people lining to get a take away, and some were enjoying a dine in.

Nothing too fancy about the interior. Quite humble. Wooden tables and chairs. The "warung" itself occupies a small space which was actually a front porch of a house. Even though it's humble but it felt quite cozy, and pretty clean for a "warung".

The food in this "warung" is only chicken porridge. Nothing else. But it has to be so special because the "warung" was quite packed with customers, even though it was at 9 pm. Surely if it was packed during breakfast hours, I wouldn't be as surprised. And FYI there were also quite much other "warung" that sell porridge nearby. So I just gotta find out by myself what was so special about the porridge.

In here, one portion of chicken porridge costs Rp. 8.000. And half portion costs Rp. 6.000. With only a slight difference like that, it's much more profitable to order one portion, right?
There it was at my table, steaming hot chicken porridge with so soo generous toppings. The toppings are shredded fried chicken meat, roasted nuts, chopped scallions, slices of fried char kuey (cakwe in Indonesian), fried onions, also not forgetting the crackers. There were also an option to add celery, but I skipped it since I don't like it that much.
What I loved about the porridge was that it's not too sloppy. A fine thick and densed texture. I can still felt the rice grain so vagued in the porridge. The basic porridge itself only uses chicken stock, salt, and pepper in the making. The chicken meat was good, it's not dry so chewing them wasn't that hard. The overall taste was good. Flavorful and quite rich in texture. In every bite I felt the soft porridge, the crunchy nuts and the juicy chicken meat.

There are also some variants of satays (sate) which can be used as a side dish for the porridge. Sate Telor Putuh, Sate Hati Ampela Ayam, and Sate Jantung Ayam, each is Rp. 2.500/stick.
They were cooked nicely, making them soft and tender. Before they were fried, the satays are marinated in turmeric and salt, giving them a savory and a nice aroma too. Quite tasty. 

 Teh Tawar

The perfect drink to accompany porridge would be a glass of tea. Since it was night already, I ordered Teh Tawar - FREE. The tea was nice, although I was hoping for a bolder taste. But what made it special is that it's free. You can order it cold just by paying Rp. 1.000. If you want to order another drink there are also choices of sweet ice tea or soft drinks.

Overall conclusion, so again I found a great "warung makan" which offered good food. A good place that sells tasty chicken porridge. It's no wonder why so many customers come to this place just for the porridge. The flavors are good and the price is so affordable.
Yet again, another hidden treasure is found.
