Nanyang Malaysian Klang Bak Kut Teh, Pantai Indah Kapuk

Hi Eaters.

It's another new restaurant opened in the hip culinary area of Pantai Indah Kapuk. Say hello to Nanyang Malaysian Klang Bak Kut Teh, a restaurant which specializes.. well as you can say by its name, Malaysian Bak Kut Teh. It's a bold move to open a bak kut teh restaurant in Pantai Indah Kapuk if you know that there is another infamous restaurant that serves the same kind of dish just hundreds of meters away.

But actually between those two restaurants, although serving the same kind of dishes but apparently quite different if you tasted them respectively. Malaysian bak kut teh is more herbally, and in Nanyang the herbal taste has been adjusted to the palate of Indonesian customers. It's more light and not too strong.
Speaking about Nanyang again, well let's talk about the interior. The outside facade is quite eye catching, with solid black and bloody red color being so contrast. It just makes you easier to locate this restaurant. The beautiful chinese paper lanterns also gave a nice esthetic feeling to the facade.

The solid black and the bloody red color are also applied inside the restaurant, accompanied by the warm-soothing wooden brown to give the restaurant a homey atmosphere. It's an elegant look if you closely see how the interior is designed. I like how they again use the paper lanterns as lightings on every table. And how they tend not to use too many colors and stick more to the identity color of the restaurant.
The place itself isn't quite big but definitely comfortable, and also you can book the second floor of the restaurant for private events since they provide VIP room too.

Specializing in Malaysian bak kut teh doesn't mean you won't find other food here. Sometimes when you dine with children, they tend not to like herbally food. But rest assure that the kids can order something else besides bak kut teh.
So what kinds of food available here? Let's start eating!

Fragrant Rice - IDR 9K

It's kind of similar to the Chinese hainan rice. Fragrant and had that hint of chicken broth tasted in the rice. Delicious. I think it's a good companion for the bak kut teh.

Nanyang Yam Rice - IDR 18K

A lot of expectations by looking at its appetizing color. But somehow it didn't came like the way I thought it would be. I would say it's plain. It needs a pinch of salt maybe, or a bit more seasoning. The fragrant rice was just a knock out compared to this one.

Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Salt & Pepper - IDR 45K

My favourite seafood dish in any seafood restaurant is also available at Nanyang. Couldn't be happier. Yes, I loved squid cooked with salt and pepper, like maybe...a lot!
This one was delicious. The golden brown-ish batter color is so so appetizing. The squid was cooked perfectly. Chewy and yummy with a decent level of spiciness. Recommended!

Deep Fried Chicken Mongolian Style - IDR 45K

Again, I really liked how they fried the food here. The color was very appetizing. This one is deep fried battered chicken cooked with a sweet and spicy mongolian sauce. The sauce really glazed the chicken beautifully. As for the taste, it's quite tasty. For my preference it's a bit too sweet. Perhaps it's because my palate tends to favor something salty. But this one is good enough for the kids. I mean, children loves fried chicken and sweets, right?

Deep Fried Prawns with Butter Flakes - IDR 65K

This one was superbly delicious. The butter flakes was so delicious, it complimented the prawn very nicely and thus enhancing the overall flavors. Crispy, savory and salty all around. I just hoped that they peeled off the skin and remove the prawn's head in the serving. It's much convenient to be eaten that way.

Mixed Fried Jade Kailan - IDR 30K

OMG I really loved this vegetable dish. The taste was delicious. The leaves were fried so they were crispy while the stems were stir-fried and seasoned nicely. Every bite of this dish was a delightful moment.

Deep Fried Pumpkins with Salted Egg Yolk - IDR 40K

I loved salted egg, and this dish just proved me that salted egg can never do me wrong. A great combination between that layer of salty and savory crispy batter on the outside, meets with the soft and sweet texture of the pumpkin inside. It's something I think the children would like also, and maybe get quite addicted. It's super yumm!!

Stir Fried Clams with Chili Sauce - IDR 40K

It may looked spicy but in fact it was not that burning hot. Still tolerable, and tends to be more sweet and spicy than it is to be just spicy. Anyway, it's perfectly cooked, no fishy smell and the texture was nice and not rubbery.

Claypot Bak Kut Teh - price according to your preference of meat

Now it's time for the main event, the signature dish, yes the bak kut teh. Anyway you can customize your bak kut teh here. In which I mean customize is you can choose what kind of meat you desire to be on your pot of bak kut teh.
For my bak kut teh that day it was served with pork, mushrooms, tofu and fried tofu skin.
Arriving on the table, immediately the aroma was inviting. Visually speaking, it's also intriguing. The soup was herbally, yet not too strong as I have described before. Delicious and healthy of course. The pork was also tasty with soft and juicy texture.

Claypot Dry Bak Kut Teh - price according to your preference of meat

This one is stir-fry cooked bak kut teh. This one was my favourite dish of the day. Super delicious pork ribs, marinated nicely in the seasoning. Really succulent texture and it's just heaven in every bite. You should order this one at Nanyang. And I really mean it, you should order and not miss this one.

Mango Pudding - IDR 25K

Lychee Cincau Guilinggo - IDR 25K

It's a full tummy that day and I couldn't be happier. They served me two desserts too that day, but with a full tummy I could only tasted one, and find myself liking it too. The mango pudding was nice and not too sweet. A good closure for a heavy feast.

Overall conclusion, it was another satisfying dining. The food was great, most of it, and certainly something not to be missed of next time I visited Pantai Indah Kapuk. The price was acceptable, but knowing now the taste was that good then I think you get more than what you pay. So this is one restaurant I would happily recommend for you to try in any case you happen to visit Pantai Indah Kapuk.

Keep on chewing!
