MIKA Japanese Bistro

Hi Eaters.

I've never grown tired of going to Mall Kota Kasablanka to grab a bite. Put a side the reason that it's just so close to where I live (I could go there on foot for only 5 minutes), I also find the reason that the existence of the Food Society section in this mall just captured my heart.
If you guys haven't know yet, Food Society is a part of the Mall Kota Kasablanka where you will find so many restaurants which not only serve good food, but also beautifully decorated.
One of the many restaurants I can say is so beautiffully decorated is MIKA Japanese Bistro.

Located in the Ground Floor of Food Society, this restaurant always catches my eyes everytime I walked pass by it. The interior is so vintage. I could say that even though it's a Japanese bistro, it has no Japanese touch in its interior. Likely to be European vintage design. Very similar to the looks of a french bistro rather than a Japanese. It's just so beautiful and cozy. Gotta give credits to the interior designer for thinking so way out of the box with this design. The interior is likely to be more "bistro" than it is "Japanese". Well, you don't need to look Japanese only because you sell Japanese food, right?

For the ambience, it's a total winner for me. The service was also great. I loved the hospitality. But what about the food?

Free Kurma during Ramadhan
 Free Kurma during Ramadhan
As I sit that day, I found a small plate of Kurma in the table. It's free and on the house during the Ramadhan period. I consider it as a welcome snack.
Now as in any meal, let's start with an appetizer.

Shitake Mushroom Soup
 Shitake Mushroom Soup
I had Shitake Mushroom Soup - IDR 30K as my appetizer. At first sip, I am totally loving this soup. It's rich and creamy. The cream is not too thick but not too thin also. The shitake mushroom was minced so I didn't find any chunks of it inside the soup. The overall taste was great. It's delicious. A good way to start a meal.

Omurice has got to be one of Japanese most favourite dish. The Omurice Classic - IDR 60K is a japanese style omelette and tomato fried rice with French influence thick brown sauce. The rice itsef uses a Japanese rice which is sticky. The tomato sauce and the thick brown sauce tasted almost quite the same for my palate. Sour and nice. But since it tasted almost the same, I see no variety in taste. I could, however, prefer they wouldn't use the tomato fried rice. Instead I hope they use yakimeshi to give it another contrasting taste. Just too bad if the delicious thick brown sauce is masked by the tomato fried rice. FYI, it's no wonder why the brown sauce tasted wonderful. It's cooked for 7 days. Crazy right? It went through a long cooking process until the taste become just so mind-blowing.
In the other hand, the omelette is just stunning. Creamy, soft, and super yummy. Hands down, the best omelette I tasted so far.

Fish Katsu On Egg Mayo

I've had quite a liking for dory fish since my last foodjourney (you can check my previous reviews) and so happy to see a menu that has dory incorporated inside.
The Fish Katsu On Egg Mayo - IDR 60K comes not only with that delicious dory, but also with mesclun salad and a bed of spaghetti aglio olio. A complete menu, right?
This menu for me is so rich in texture and flavor. It's like a feast in my mouth. Texture is so important though, because it gives you excitement in every bite and every chew.
The mesclun salad was acidic, fresh and delicious. The spaghetti aglio olio had a bit punch of spiciness in its tender and well-cooked spaghetti. The dory fish katsu had a crunchy batter texture in the outside. While inside, the fish was so soft and juicy. My rating for this dish is super excellent.

Houjicha Panna Cota

Pannacotta is definitely my most favourite dessert, and I'm so in love with this Houjicha Panna Cota - IDR 25K. It's packed with that super yummy coffee jelly on top of the pannacotta. Super mouth-watering treat for my palate. Seriously, I think one cup is not enough. For all of you who are planning to visit MIKA any time soon, do order this dessert. Trust me, you'll fall in love with it for sure.
Tamago Pudding

The Tamago Pudding - IDR 25K is a sweet and savory Japanese egg custard served with a delicious caramel sauce in its bottom layer. The egg custard do indeed tasted a bit savory. The texture was perfect, soft and fluffy. The caramel sauce was really sweet. But when I ate it together with the custard, surprisingly it blended really well. The sweetness actually gave a good balance for the savoriness of the custard.
Choco Milky Way
 Choco Milky Way
For the beverages my first one was the Choco Milky Way - IDR 35K. It is a mixture of chocolate syrup, raspberry, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate stick. The dominant taste was the vanilla ice cream. The overall taste was sweet. Although it may not looked like a chocolate drink, but I did actually felt a nice bitter taste of chocolate inside.
Mango Saga
 Mango Saga
The Mango Saga - IDR 35K is a mixture of milk, mango, mint leaf, and vanilla ice cream. Unlike the Choco Milky Way, the vanilla ice cream was not dominant here. The mango was. The texture is a bit creamy. And the milky taste blended well with the fruity taste from the mango. I found a bit chill from the mint leaf too. Overall good.

Overall conclusion, I left with a happy tummy. At first impression, I was blown away with the restaurant's beautiful interior. And afterwards the food just completed that perfect impression. There's nothing not to be like about this bistro. It just has everything you need for an unforgetable dining experience.
I could not say anything more, because I'm just speechless. But seriously, you really would want to try their food. It's excellent. And the prices are quite affordable too, considering this is a bistro. I just gotta come back here again for more!

Keep on chewing!
