Tiger Claypot

Hai Eaters.

So last Sunday I was circling around Kelapa Gading, looking for a nice place to eat. Well I have a lot of favourite restaurants here and sometimes I like to do a re-visit just to reminisced on the nice dining experience I had before there.
Thinking back that the last few days I had quite a lot of western food, I was eager to find an asian restaurant. In my mind I had one restaurant I could think of that served great asian food.
It used to be named Tiger Express, but now it is called Tiger Claypot.

Yup, no more of that tiger cartoon on the restaurant's signboard. The idea to change the name I think is also to avoid the impression that this is a fast-food (express) restaurant.

The interior is still likely the same as the one I remembered on my last visit. Nothing has changed inside. The service and the hospitality are still good.
One thing that I noticed changing was the menu. They added a new set of menu called the Tiger Claypot, same as the restaurant's name. Well, just gotta try them out to see if they are qualified enough to bear the restaurant's name, right? But first, as always, let's order up some appetizers.
Fried Shrimp Dumpling

The appetizers offered came in some range of variants to choose. There are the choices of dimsums, toasted breads, and tiger bites (which is mostly fried finger food). Since this is an asian fusion food, I decided to try the dimsum.
My first choice of dimsum was the Fried Shrimp Dumpling - Rp. 17.272. Sauted shrimp covered in a golden brown fried dumpling skin. The dumpling skin was nice and crispy. The shrimp inside is savory with a good level of saltiness. It's quite delicious.
Shrimp Shumay

After the fried dumpling, I tried the steamed one which was Shrimp Shumay - Rp. 17.272. This one was also good. The dumpling was not mushy or soggy. And the shrimp was also delicious. Quite tasty and savory for my palate.

Moving on to the tiger claypot menus. I tried the Chicken Katsudon - Rp. 31.818.
For the claypot menu as mentioned in the name, it was served in a pot made from natural clay. Usually the kind of food I eat which was served in something like that is Sapo Tahu.
So the way to eat this claypot menu is to stir and mix all the ingridients together, much like when you eat bibimbap.
Inside the claypot for this Chicken Katsudon I found chicken katsu, kai-lan vegetables, pickled cucumbers, and rice and on top it was sprinkled with sesame. The chicken katsu is very tasty. So savory with tender juicy meat. The sauce is awesome. Super delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly, making it fluffy and nice. The vegetables were served tasteless, only boiled without seasoned. But when it had already been mixed with the other ingridients, it tasted great.

The Chicken Katsu Curry - Rp. 31.818 uses the same chicken katsu, vegetables, pickled cucumbers and rice, as in the Chicken Katsudon. What made it different was the sauce. It had a curry taste and punch a bit of spiciness from the chilli incorporated in the curry sauce.
For my palate it's pretty spicy. It might burn your tongue a bit. But in the end every people has different palate. For my consideration it's also pretty tasty. Spicy, but delicious also.

I had mentioned in my previous review about this restaurant that it had a really mouth-watering dessert called the Snow Ice.
It is a kind of Taiwanese dessert, with fruit, ice cream, milk, and pudding incorporated together.
Snow Ice Mango

The Snow Ice Mango - Rp. 25.454 was my first choice. As I recall, the Snow Ice that I first tried here was just plated in a bowl and looked pretty much like common Taiwanese dessert platings in other restaurants. But now, they made it cute. It was made to resemble a tiger's face, but in a cute way though. Now it packs a lot of ice cream too.
The Snow Ice Mango had pudding, mango fruit and mango ice cream inside. On top of it there are chocolate ball biscuits, oranges, pineapples and a cherry.
The mango ice cream wasn't that sweet, but I was still able to taste the mango flavor quite nice. I found it okay since the mango fruit underneath the ice cream was sweet. So I didn't get that much punch of sugar. The pudding was also good. It was soft. Be careful about the oranges on the top though, it's pretty sour.
Snow Ice Melon & Matcha

The Snow Ice Melon & Matcha - Rp. 25.454 uses the same fruit toppings and the same pudding. The ice cream used was matcha flavor and underneath the ice cream was the generous melons. The ice cream had a nice matcha flavor, bitter and not too sweet. It wasn't the best matcha flavor I have ever tried though. It could go with a little more boost. But if you're not a fan of matcha, you'll find it quite okay. It's pretty refreshing.
Tea Tarik

For the beverages offered in the menu I have to say there are quite a lot of improvements. Now there are more choices of drink to choose: sodas, teas, mojitos, juices, beers, and ice blendeds.
My choice was one of my favourite drink, the Tea Tarik - Rp. 14.545.
It felt like they used more milk than the tea giving it a more thick consistency in the drink. It also made the tea tarik to be more sweet. I can still taste the traces of the tea though. It's good enough for me.
Yin Yang (Ice)
 Yin Yang (Ice)
The last drink I ordered was the Yin Yang (Ice) - Rp. 14.454. Imagining the name "yin yang" at first I thought it was going to be maybe a glass of black coffee mixed with white milk and you put in a glass but with separated layers that showed contrast of both items.
But....what eventually came was ice chocolate.
Yes, so the Yin Yang is the name for the ice chocolate drink here.
But despite the confusing name, this drink tasted pretty good. The chocolate had a strong flavor. Sweet and a bit bitter, like chocolate should be. And it's really refreshing. Chocoholic would love this drink, and btw it is also the chef's recommended drink on the ice blended variants.

Overall conclusion, still loving this restaurant, with its delicious food and great service. You might even find the owner of the restaurant opening doors for coming or leaving customers.
Prices are fair, and in my opinion are quite affordable. Seriously, for the great taste you will get from the food here, every penny is just so worth it.
So if you want to taste a delicious asian fusion food, this is a great spot to go to. Give it a try!

Keep on chewing!
